The Horizon Science Academy in Ohio is facing heat from the natural hair community after a copy of a letter to parents that included a ban on afro puffs and ‘small twisted braids’ was posted online…

my question to the school administration is this: how many of you would like to volunteer to go to the homes of these little black girls and fix their hair in a style that is “suitable” for you? if they were to ban beads, plastic hair clips, bubbles, etc., i might understand some sort of justification behind that. but afro puffs? these are literally the equivalent of ponytails for individuals with kinky or curly hair. how do you look at children and tell them that their hair texture, the way that God makes their hair grow from their scalp, is against your small-minded regulation? this is insensitive and ignorant. words cannot even describe how livid i am after reading this.

Hold the fuck up. See, this is what I’m talking about. White people ‘round here wanna wear afro wigs and box braids and think it’s a fucking game, when OUR OWN RACE can’t even wear our hair naturally. 

Afro puffs, braids, and twists are literally the only styles a little black girl can wear. People have no damn common sense and only think about their norms. One person commented on one of these articles and said “It’s not that hard to just put it back into a proper ponytail.”
HELLO???? That’s what an afro puff IS! Our hair does not hang down. When we put it in a “ponytail,” the hair does not stop being an afro.
